Foster Pet Volunteer

Foster pet homes provide an invaluable service to animals needing individualized care and socialization prior to being eligible for adoption. We provide all the basic supplies you'll need to foster, as well as vaccinations and preventative treatments.

HSMC pets in the greatest need are:

  • Cats or kittens awaiting spay/neuter surgery.
  • Animals with special health needs, such as dogs with heartworms or those recovering from surgery.
  • Nursing puppies and kittens.

Volunteers interested in becoming foster pet volunteers are required to go through the standard volunteer application process. If you are interested please apply to volunteer at the appropriate site here.

All foster pet volunteers must be at least 18 years of age. The length of time an animal needs foster care depends on the needs of the individual animal, but typically ranges from 2 to 8 weeks.

Dogs Available for Foster

Meet Clancy!

Clancy is a female German Shepherd that is approximately 1 year old. She has a lung infection and is in need of a foster home while she heals and finishes with her antibiotics. Clancy will need a foster home with either no other dogs or big dogs only as she has a high prey drive with smaller animals. She is a very sweet, smart girl and has been doing well with basic obedience. She needs a foster for an estimated 2 months. If you are interested in fostering Clancy, please call us at 706-343-9977 or stop by the shelter today!
