Become a Volunteer

How Can You Help?

The Humane Society of Morgan County is always looking for dedicated individuals and families willing to volunteer their time to our animals and events.  Click here to download a volunteer application.  Once complete, email to [email protected]

Volunteer Criteria:

All of our volunteers must be no younger than 16 years old in order to volunteer without parental supervision.  We do allow minors under the age of 16 years old to volunteer on a case by case basis and must be accompanied by an adult age 25 years or older during while volunteering at the shelter or events.  Volunteers under age 18 must have parental permission in order to volunteer with the HSMC.

  • Voluntering as a Group – Whether you are looking to organize your family, friends, community, work or college associates to volunteer as a group, we welcome you.  Each individual will need to submit an application.  Assign one point of contact (POC) for the group and email all completed applications together to [email protected] Have the Subject line read “(Name of your group) – Group Volunteer Applications”.  This way we can be sure to keep the information together.
  • Volunteers with Disabilities – We welcome and encourage those with any kind of disability to volunteer for the HSMC.  If you have any kind of limitations, please include this in your application and provide us with suggested accommodations in your email, with the application.
  • Service Dogs – Due to the shelter environment and the tasks performed by Service Dogs, it is in the best interest of all involved, that we not have these working dogs at the facility.  However, we are willing to review each application on a case by case situation.  For outside events we more than encourage you to participate as many of these events will not impede the performance of a Service Dog.

Emotional Support Animals (ESA) and Therapy Animals are pets and the owner/handler of these animals do not have public accessibility protections under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

  • Applicants aged 16 & 17 require adult guardian permission to volunteer for the Humane Society of Morgan County.  Volunteers 16 and older can volunteer AT the shelter without adult guardian supervision, however, permission for offsite events must be approved before commitment is accepted by the HSMC management.
  • Applicants under age 16 require adult guardian permission to volunteer for the Humane Society of Morgan County.  Volunteers under the age of 16 are also REQUIRED to be accompanied by an adult guardian at ALL TIMES while volunteering with the HSMC, at the shelter and at offsite events.  Exceptions to this policy will NOT be made.

We encourage anyone with a love of animals to apply to become a volunteer.  We have so many opportunities available to fit everyone’s abilities and experience.
